In the 1970's, there was a large movement in political and social thoughts of the upcoming generation: the New Left. The New Left was basically a group of college students who found that, though many groups claimed to support democratic ideas, but hadn't taken steps to end segregation and discrimination. This movement, though it was not lead entirely by Jewish students, more Jews supported the movement than did not. This was absolutely not based on anything other than the long Jewish history of being persecuted and discriminated against, particularly following World War II. The New Left eventually dissolved and became many less relevant factions, having failed to get any radical ideas set. The New Left, however, did pave the way for many of the newer movements continuing to this day, such as female rights and environmental movements.
